Basketball Recap: Zuni Triumphs

Wingate came into Friday's match looking for another win against Zuni, but Ty'Shawn Nieto wouldn't allow it. The Zuni Thunderbirds came out on top against the Wingate Bears by a score of 65-55 on Friday thanks in part to Nieto, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 23 boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 8.5 rebounds per game.

Another player making a difference was Deron Lastyano, who posted eight points in addition to eight steals and seven boards. He has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played.

Zuni's record now sits at 10-5. As for Wingate, they moved to 6-8 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Zuni wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 94-56 loss against Navajo Prep on the 18th. Wingate has also already played their next contest, a 72-52 win against Newcomb on the 18th.
