Preview: Thomas Jefferson Vikings vs. Hopewell Blue Devils
The Thomas Jefferson Vikings will head out on the road to face off against the Hopewell Blue Devils at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Thomas Jefferson will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 218th, while Hopewell is ranked 69th).
After a string of three wins, Thomas Jefferson's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 57-47 to Godwin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Thomas Jefferson in their matchups with Godwin: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the defeat, Thomas Jefferson got a solid performance out of Avner Polsky, who scored 15 points. Those 15 points set a new season-high mark for him. Zaymon Harris was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Meanwhile, Hopewell had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 59-41 victory over Mecklenburg County.
Thomas Jefferson's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Hopewell, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Thomas Jefferson suffered a grim 77-57 defeat to Hopewell when the teams last played back in February of 2016. Can Thomas Jefferson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
