Poplarville got a 42 - 27 win over Northeast Lauderdale last week, and a key reason for the win was sophomore Cory Knight. Knight earned one touchdown and 202 yards rushing the ball. In fact, our algorithms singled out Knight as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
Rocket Boost
It was onward and upward for Slidell this week as the team hoisted itself up four places in the power rankings -- the largest rise of the week -- after their most recent game. Even if it wasn't a dominant performance, it beat Northshore 14 - 7. Slidell had two big standouts, as junior Tito Simmons ran for 82 yards and also punched in one touchdown, while junior Jacob Guidry threw for 127 yards and one touchdown.
This Week's Top Game
The showdown between Easton (4th in the power rankings) and Edna Karr (3rd) shaped up to be more of a takedown. Easton has to be hurting after a devastating 40 - 6 defeat at the hands of Edna Karr. The fight Easton demonstrated in its 61 - 9 win the game before seemed replaced by lethargy in this one.
Look Out Below
Holy Cross is a little down this week -- likely figuratively, certainly literally. The team fell four spots in the power rankings (the most of any team in the rankings) after its most recent contest. It and Live Oak were almost perfectly matched up, but Holy Cross suffered an agonizing 14 - 13 defeat. The outcome was a definite jolt of excitement for Holy Cross after its previous game, where the margin was anything but close.
