Basketball Recap: Aniya Toney's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pflugerville Connally over Weiss

Pflugerville Connally lost against Weiss back in February of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Pflugerville Connally Cougars took a 48-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Weiss Wolves. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1158th, while the Wolves are ranked 521st).

Pflugerville Connally's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aniya Toney, who went 7 of 16 en route to 15 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. The game was Toney's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Makrista Dolphus, who posted six points in addition to ten boards and six steals.

Even though they lost, Pflugerville Connally smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive matches.

Pflugerville Connally's record now sits at 1-22. As for Weiss, they moved to 13-11 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Pflugerville Connally will square off against Georgetown at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Weiss, they will take on East View at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
