Softball Preview: Sanderson Spartans vs. Leesville Road Pride
The Sanderson Spartans will venture away from home to face off against the Leesville Road Pride at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Sanderson is looking for their season's first victory.
Things were looking good for Sanderson after they put the first runs on the board on Tuesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They lost 26-9 to Enloe. Spartans fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Eagles since on Tuesday.
Mason Stanley was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Sloane Thorpe was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Leesville Road got the win against Athens Drive on Thursday by a conclusive 11-1. With that win, the Pride brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Maddie Kelbaugh, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Erskine, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.
Leesville Road was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
