Southwestern came out on top against Litchfield on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Piasa Birds took their match against the Purple Panthers 5-2. The win was some much needed relief for the Piasa Birds as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Ryan Lowis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up 11 Ks.

At the plate, Southwestern saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Johnny Kunz, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Southwestern was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Litchfield only posted a batting average of .130.

Southwestern's record is now 4-11. As for Litchfield, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 13-6.

Southwestern wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 9-2 defeat against Greenville on the 21st. As for Litchfield, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-5 victory against Staunton on the 22nd.
