Basketball Recap: Edison Takes a Loss

Edison was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Brackenridge Eagles and fell 70-27. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Golden Bears of the 64-36 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.

When it comes to explaining why Edison lost, don't look at Malajah Gray. Despite the final result, she posted six points and nine rebounds. Those nine rebounds gave Gray a new career-high.

Brackenridge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sarah Arriaga, who went 10 of 20 on her way to 25 points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals. Arriaga is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlynn Cortinas, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine boards.

Edison's defeat dropped their record down to 5-14. As for Brackenridge, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.

Edison will face off against Sam Houston at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Sam Houston will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something Edison surely won't give up without a fight. As for Brackenridge, it'll be Battle of the Birds when the Brackenridge Eagles face off against the Highlands Owls at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Brackenridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.5 points per game this season.
