Basketball Recap: Ashbrook Takes a Loss

Ashbrook lost against South Point back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Ashbrook Greenwave lost to the South Point Red Raiders at home by a 60-42 margin. While losing is never fun, the Greenwave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 275th, while the Red Raiders are ranked 124th).

Despite the loss, Ashbrook still got an impressive performance from Jakyra Sadler, who went 7 for 16 on her way to 18 points along with seven steals and six boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloes Morales, who posted four points and three steals.

Amya Graham was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 32 points and 13 rebounds for South Point. Another player making a difference was Toney Milton, who put up 14 points and five boards.

Ashbrook dropped their record down to 6-11 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for South Point, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season.

Ashbrook will face off against Kings Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Ashbrook is facing Kings Mountain at the right time seeing as Kings Mountain is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for South Point, they will square off against Forestview at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in South Point's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests.
