Basketball Recap: Marquette Catholic Takes a Loss

Marquette Catholic and Southwestern squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Marquette Catholic had to settle for second. They took a 50-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Southwestern Piasa Birds. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Explorers of the 45-43 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2022.

It was another big night for Ryan Lowis, who posted 22 points and seven rebounds for Southwestern. Lowis is becoming a predictor of Southwestern's success: when he posts at least 15 points the team is 8-1 (and 11-12 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Brantley, who went 7-for-12 en route to 14 points and six boards.

Marquette Catholic now has a losing record of 16-17. As for Southwestern, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 19-13 record this season.

As of now, neither Marquette Catholic nor Southwestern have any future games scheduled.
