Greenwood is a perfect 8-0 against Pecos since November of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Rangers will square off against the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Pecos will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Greenwood extended their winning streak to four on Friday. The Rangers put the hurt on Shallowater with a sharp 42-17 victory. Fans of the Rangers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pecos). They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 41-13 win over Kermit. The Eagles not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since August 30, 2024 (when they won 41-7).
Pecos' win came from a few key players Greenwood will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Michael Garcia, who rushed for 30 yards and one TD, and also threw for 106 yards and one touchdown while completing 71.4% of his passes.
Pecos didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Kermit to a completion percentage of just 40.9%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Kai Salgado and Mateo Fernandez, who each logged one passes deflected. Given Garcia's standout performance, it's clear Kermit's secondary just wasn't on the same level.
Pecos didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Fernandez, Jordan Morales, and Amare Griffin picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Kermit's side was Ziggy Hinojoz, who picked up a sack and made five total tackles (4.0 for loss).
The victory got Pecos back to even at 2-2. As for Greenwood, their win bumped their record up to 4-0.
Everything came up roses for Greenwood against Pecos in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, as the squad secured a 56-29 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Eagles' Colt Salgado, who rushed for 114 yards and one score on only six carries, and also threw for 153 yards and one touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Rangers to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
