Softball Recap: Eastern Montgomery Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Eastern Montgomery entered their tilt with Bland County on Thursday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They blew past the Bears 21-0. The Mustangs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Bears, too.

Rena Chandler made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Chandler was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four runs, two triples, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Eastern Montgomery got a massive performance out of Sam Brein, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most RBI Brein has posted since back in April of 2024. Chelsie Kennedy was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Eastern Montgomery always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Eastern Montgomery's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Bland County, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-10.

Looking ahead, Eastern Montgomery will welcome Craig County at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rockets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.8 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Bland County, they will square off against Fort Chiswell at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pioneers have averaged an impressive 8 runs per game this season.
