Baseball Game Preview: Blake Yellow Jackets vs. Riverview Sharks

Blake is 0-5 against Riverview since April of 2015 but things could change on Monday. The Blake Yellow Jackets will challenge the Riverview Sharks at 7:00 p.m. Riverview took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Blake, who comes in off a win.

Blake barely beat Tampa Bay Tech the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Blake was the clear victors by an 18-8 margin over Tampa Bay Tech on Saturday. The match marked the Yellow Jackets' most dominant victory of the season.

Anthony Mathews made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases.

In other batting news, Blake let Brett Valerio and Victor Mendez run wild. Valerio scored three runs while going 2-for-3, while Mendez scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Those three runs gave Valerio a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Smith, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Blake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Riverview fell victim to Freedom and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 7-0 to the Patriots. Having soared to a lofty 29 runs in the game before, the Sharks' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Riverview saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Boltz, who went 1-for-2 with one double.

Riverview has also been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. Blake's record is now 3-10.

Blake suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Riverview when the teams last played back in February. Can Blake avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
