Football Recap: Ponchatoula Green Wave vs. Chalmette Owls
Ponchatoula managed to slip by Chalmette the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Green Wave were dealt a 49-7 loss at the hands of the Owls on Friday. Having soared to a lofty 34 points in the game before, the Green Wave couldn't push the score so high this time.
A big part of Chalmette's victory came down to the chemistry between Breez Wilson and his top target Dana Antoine Jr. Wilson threw for 203 yards and four TDs on only 13 passes while Antoine Jr picked up 100 receiving yards and three scores. Wilson's passing game has become a key predictor of Chalmette's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. A healthy portion of Wilson's aerial production (80 yards to be exact) also went to Rashawn Bangham, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Ponchatoula's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Chalmette, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-2.
Ponchatoula has already played their next contest, a 45-10 loss against St. Paul's on the 17th. As for Chalmette, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 23-20 victory against Northshore on the 17th.
