Softball Game Preview: Marriotts Ridge vs. South River Seahawks

Marriotts Ridge will head out on the road to challenge the South River Seahawks at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Marriotts Ridge's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Wilde Lake with a sharp 16-0 win. The game was the first time Marriotts Ridge has beaten Wilde Lake on their field since May 27, 2021.

Sienna Williams and Liv Ober made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Williams struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Ober pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Williams scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Ober scored a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leah Kim, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Mackenzie Tasch was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Meanwhile, South River made easy work of Annapolis on Friday and carried off a 21-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Seahawks.

Like Marriotts Ridge, South River also got a great game from a two-way player: Addie Binko. She struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits Binko has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Hanna Grambo was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one triple, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Sloane Kelly, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.

Marriotts Ridge now has a winning record of 1-0-1. As for South River, their record now sits at 2-0.
