Baseball Recap: Stevens Comes Up Short

Stevens suffered their closest defeat since April 23, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of the Sotomayor WILDCATS by a score of 4-2. The Falcons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the WILDCATS earlier this season, when they won 4-3.

Jeremy Gallardo was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, Jordan Vargas was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

Stevens dropped their record down to 7-10 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Sotomayor, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5-1 record this season.

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Stevens Falcons challenge Harlan Hawks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Stevens will need to watch out since Harlan has now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests. As for Sotomayor, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Taft at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sotomayor is facing Taft at the right time seeing as Taft is stuck on a six-game losing streak.
