The Machias Bulldogs will square off against the Narraguagus Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Machias comes in on three and Narraguagus on six.
If Machias beats Narraguagus with seven runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Bulldogs beat Shead on Wednesday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-2.
Nick Hennessey made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Hennessey was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mickey Fitzsimmons, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brady Fergerson, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Machias kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, while Narraguagus put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Sumner. The Knights put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 10-0 victory. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by ten runs or more this season.
Like Machias, Narraguagus also got a great game from a two-way player: McKade Robertson. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Robertson has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game.
In other batting news, Manny Absalom was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Brody Robertson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Narraguagus' win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 11.7 runs this season. As for Machias, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Machias has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Narraguagus struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Machias suffered a grim 11-3 defeat to Narraguagus in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
