Tahquitz will square off against Temescal Canyon at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The timing isn't great for Tahquitz: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Temescal Canyon has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
Tahquitz fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Hillcrest on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 15-14.
Vanessa Garcia led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-6 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Megan Brown, who went 3-for-6 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Temescal Canyon made easy work of Elsinore on Friday and carried off a 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Titans, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Temescal Canyon also got a great performance from JESSENIA MOORE as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. MOORE has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, SAMI OLSON and NIA HALL did most of the damage at the plate: OLSON went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while HALL went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave OLSON a new career-high. REAGAN PICKENS was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Temescal Canyon hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in ten consecutive contests.
Temescal Canyon is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Tahquitz, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Tahquitz hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .345. However, it's not like Temescal Canyon struggles in that department as they've averaged .424. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Tahquitz might still be hurting after the 17-0 defeat they got from Temescal Canyon in their previous matchup on April 11th. Will Tahquitz have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
