Softball Game Preview: Mathews Blue Devils vs. Lafayette Rams

The Mathews Blue Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Lafayette Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Mathews and 30 for Lafayette dating back to last season.

Mathews came up short against King William on Friday, falling 23-2.

Lafayette couldn't beat Tabb on Friday even though they stacked eight runs on them in the fourth inning. The Rams lost 20-10 to the Tigers. Even if the Rams couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Makayla Brooks made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Kaitlin Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Lafayette's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Mathews, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Mathews beat Lafayette 22-18 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
