Recap: Cypress Bay Lightning vs. Bluffton Bobcats

After a string of ten wins, the Cypress Bay Lightning's's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell 59-48 to Bluffton. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Cypress Bay has scored all season.

When it comes to explaining why Cypress Bay lost, one person who can't be blamed is Peyton Looky. Despite the final result, she scored 29 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Gonano, who scored 11 points.

Bluffton got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tacoya Heyward out in front who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Heyward is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Ja'laina Mosley was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Cypress Bay's defeat ended a ten-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-1. As for Bluffton, they pushed their record up to 11-1 with that victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.

Cypress Bay and Episcopal School of Jacksonville will face off at 6:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023 without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Episcopal School of Jacksonville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 211th, while Cypress Bay is ranked 85th). Bluffton won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Woodmont at 6:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023.
