Soccer Recap: Coral Gables Gets Big Win over Higher-Ranked Miami Beach

Miami Beach typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Coral Gables proved too difficult a challenge. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Miami Beach Hi-Tides 2-1. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Cavaliers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while the Hi-Tides are ranked 14th).

Santiago Bergonzi was the driving force of Coral Gables' attack as he scored both of Coral Gables' goals, bringing his season total up to three goals.

Coral Gables now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Miami Beach, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 8-1-1 record.

Coral Gables and Homestead will compete for holiday cheer at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Homestead is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 4.3 goals per game this season. Miami Beach will take on Hialeah Educational Academy in a holiday battle at at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hialeah Educational Academy also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 4.5 goals per game.
