Football Recap: Kennedy Cougars vs. Westchester Comets
Kennedy had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They breezed by the Westchester Comets to the tune of 49-21 on Friday. Considering the Cougars have won eight contests by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
It was another big night for Diego Montes, who rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries, and also threw for 330 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 passes. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 101 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Josue Sandoval, who rushed for 106 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries.
Kennedy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jacob Andrade and Amare Rhodes.
Although Westchester took the loss, they still got scores from Dawan Scott, Jordan Rodgers, and Justen Key.
The victory (which was Kennedy's ninth in a row) raised their record to 10-2. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 30.8 points. As for Westchester, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-3.
Kennedy will take on King/Drew at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,079 yards in their previous games. Westchester does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
