Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Helix). They walked away with a 59-46 win over the Mt. Carmel Sundevils on Thursday. This was payback for the Highlanders, who suffered a 56-52 loss the last time these two teams met.
Despite the defeat, Mt. Carmel saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tyler Humphrey posted 13 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Humphrey is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last four games he's played. Jaylon Boyd was another key player, putting up ten points.
Helix's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-9. As for Mt. Carmel, they dropped their record down to 2-10 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.
Helix won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Mission Bay at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Mission Bay will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Helix surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mt. Carmel, they will take on Escondido Charter in a tournament on December 26th.
