Softball Game Preview: Highland Park Hornets vs. Sunray Bobcats

The Highland Park Hornets will head out on the road to square off against the Sunray Bobcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Highland Park is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Highland Park made easy work of Follett and carried off a 15-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Hornets.

Kaitlin Lucas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lucas was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and four RBI.

In other pitching news, Ashlyn Jones looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

Back at the plate, Highland Park got a massive performance out of Roxanne Shields, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave Shields a new career-high. Another player making a difference was J'Niyah Hearn, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Sunray fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Gruver on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Greyhounds by a score of 14-12. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Highland Park's record is now 5-12-1. As for Sunray, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Highland Park might still be hurting after the 18-12 defeat they got from Sunray in their previous meeting on March 5th. Can Highland Park avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
