Broadwater Academy has won five straight games at home (dating back to last season), while Greenbrier Christian Academy has won five straight on the road also dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. Broadwater Academy will challenge Greenbrier Christian Academy at 4:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Broadwater Academy had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Chincoteague on Wednesday. Broadwater Academy's pitcher stepped up to hand Chincoteague a 13-0 shutout. The game was the first time the Vikings have beaten the Ponies on their field since April 29, 2016.
The team relied heavily on Miranda Smith, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Kacey Ford, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Smith wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Broadwater Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Greenbrier Christian Academy made easy work of Hampton Christian Academy on Tuesday and carried off a 10-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Gators, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Peyton Moran and Cora Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Moran went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double, while Smith scored three runs while going 3-for-4. Bayleigh Kahiler was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Broadwater Academy's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Greenbrier Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 7-1.
Broadwater Academy's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's matchup. Broadwater Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Greenbrier Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 0.9 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Broadwater Academy continue to outrun the ball?
