Basketball Recap: Aayana Teasley Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Urbana

There's no place like home for Walkersville, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They walked away with a 60-52 victory over the Urbana Hawks on Friday. The Lions have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Hawks, too.

Walkersville got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aayana Teasley out in front who went 6-for-15 on her way to 17 points along with five boards and four steals. Teasley is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mia Ogg, who posted seven points in addition to six rebounds and five assists.

Walkersville was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Urbana only racked up eight assists.

Despite the defeat, Urbana saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Zizi Etolue dropped a double-double with 12 points and 16 boards. Those 16 rebounds gave Etolue a new career-high. Kiersten Smith was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals.

Walkersville is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.4 points over those games. As for Urbana, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-7.

We've got a battle between Lions coming up. Walkersville is facing Liberty at the right time seeing as Liberty is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Urbana, they will be playing at home against Frederick at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
