Basketball Recap: Hannah Canny and Avery Scott Secure Win for Stanton County

Stanton County won the last time they faced Cheyenne Wells and things went their way on Saturday too. The Stanton County Trojans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 39-36 victory over the Cheyenne Wells Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted since December 1, 2023.

Leading Stanton County to victory were Avery Scott and Hannah Canny. Scott went 5 of 9 on her way to 13 points and six rebounds, while Canny posted 11 points. Scott has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 25 times she's played.

When it comes to explaining why Cheyenne Wells lost, don't look at Paige Ryser. Despite the final result, she went 5 of 12 on her way to 17 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Aubry Carroll was another key player, putting up nine points.

Stanton County's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Cheyenne Wells, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Stanton County will take on Cheyenne Wells in a holiday battle at at 8:00 a.m. on December 21st. As for Cheyenne Wells, they will take on Peetz in a tournament on Friday.
