Soccer Game Preview: Cypress vs. Pacifica

The Cypress Centurions are taking a road trip to face off against the Pacifica Mariners at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Cypress' offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for seven straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Cypress managed to keep up with El Dorado until halftime on Monday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Cypress lost 3-0 to El Dorado. While losing is never fun, the Centurions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 750th, while the Golden Hawks are ranked 349th).

Meanwhile, Pacifica waltzed into their matchup on Monday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Defenders onto the board and left with a 3-0 victory. The Mariners' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last three contests.

Pacifica's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1-3. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up zero goals over those three games. As for Cypress, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6-1.

Cypress came out on top in a nail-biter against Pacifica in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. Does Cypress have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pacifica turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
