Baseball Recap: Gateway Comes Up Short

Gateway extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 4-6. They fell 3-0 to the Armstrong River Hawks. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Christian Vagni was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gateway saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jon Saunders, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double marked the first that Saunders has hit this season.

Armstrong's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-7. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

On Armstrong's side, the result came thanks to Liam Badac's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Caden Andryka, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.

Coming up, Gateway will square off against Baldwin at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Armstrong, they will take on Kiski Area at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
