Baseball Recap: Hazleton Area Picks Up Sixth Straight Win at Home

Hazleton Area barely beat Crestwood the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars' pitchers stepped up to hand the Comets a 7-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.

Hazleton Area got a great performance from Fred Corrado as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Corrado has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Logan Hearity, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Racho, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Hazleton Area's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Crestwood, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

Coming up, Hazleton Area will head out to challenge Wilkes-Barre at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cougars 3.5, the Wolfpack 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Crestwood, they have already played their next contest, an 11-5 victory against Dallas on the 30th.
