Softball Recap: Mellen Beats Butternut for Their Third Straight Win

Mellen waltzed into their contest on Thursday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Butternut Midgets as they made off with an 18-1 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-1 on Tuesday.

Maleah Nortunen made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with five stolen bases and four runs.

In other batting news, Trinity Conley was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season. Rilyn Kruzan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Mellen now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Butternut, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Mellen will welcome Shell Lake at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Butternut, they will venture away from home to square off against Drummond at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
