Football Recap: Nampa Comes Up Short

Nampa extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Friday, dropping them down to 0-5. They took a blow against the Bishop Kelly Knights, falling 55-27. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Idaho football rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Knights are ranked third).

Nampa's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ryland Rush, who picked up 166 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominick Almaraz, who threw for 273 yards and a pair of TDs.

As for Bishop Kelly, the win keeps them at an undefeated 4-0. The team's perfect season has a lot to do with their offensive performance: the team's won by an average of 32.5 points thus far.

Eli Lynes was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 119 yards and three scores while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Ben Avella, who threw for 205 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72% of his passes.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Nampa will face off against Skyview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Hawks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30.75 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Bishop Kelly, they will venture away from home to face off against Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' defense has only allowed 14 points per game this season, so the Knights' offense will have their work cut out for them.
