Vestaburg has gone a perfect 10-0 against Ashley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Vestaburg Wolverines will square off against the Ashley Bears at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Vestaburg has three straight wins, Ashley has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
Vestaburg is headed into the game having just posted their biggest victory since January 29th on Thursday. Everything went their way against Coleman as Vestaburg made off with a 58-38 win. The Wolverines pushed the score to 44-22 by the end of the third, a deficit the Comets cut but never quite recovered from.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Vestaburg to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lily Johnston, who went 9-for-22 to rack up 20 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessica Stouten, who posted nine points along with eight boards and six steals.
Meanwhile, Ashley played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Breckenridge, falling 62-39. The Bears were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-14.
Vestaburg will need to focus on slowing down Karissa Brady, one of several Ashley players who made an impact when they last played. She had 14 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. Brady is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Peyton Rohn was another key player, putting up nine points along with seven boards and four steals.
Ashley's defeat dropped their record down to 4-18. As for Vestaburg, their victory bumped their record up to 8-13.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Vestaburg has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 27 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Ashley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 30.1 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Vestaburg strolled past Ashley in their previous meeting back in January by a score of 60-41. The rematch might be a little tougher for Vestaburg since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
