Baseball Game Preview: Homestead Mustangs vs. Wilcox Chargers

The Homestead Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Wilcox Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Homestead has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with four straight losses, while Wilcox will come in with eight straight wins.

Homestead's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Friday's struggle, when Los Gatos hitters got past them. The Mustangs came up short against the Wildcats on Friday, falling 12-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Mustangs have suffered since March 18th.

Drew Hamburger put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning one run and two stolen bases. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

Meanwhile, while Wilcox put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Mountain View. The Chargers came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 4-0. That's two games straight that the Chargers have won by exactly four runs.

Wilcox's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-7. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Homestead, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

Homestead beat Wilcox 5-2 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
