Baseball Recap: South Side Has No Trouble Against Heber Springs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against West Side, South Side was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They put the hurt on the Heber Springs Panthers with a sharp 13-4 victory. That's more bragging rights for the Hornet, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Justus Anderson was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Kai Nichols was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. South Side is undefeated when Nichols posts three or more RBI, but 6-7 otherwise. Haze Hulse was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

South Side is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Heber Springs, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-16.

Coming up, South Side will welcome White County Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Heber Springs, they are taking a road trip to challenge Central Arkansas Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Mustangs have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
