Baseball Game Preview: Fernley Vaqueros vs. Lowry Buckaroos

The Fernley Vaqueros will square off against the Lowry Buckaroos at 8:30 a.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Fernley heads in on the heels of a playoff contest on Thursday. They came up short against Elko, falling 9-1.

Meanwhile, Lowry fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Churchill County on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Greenwave by a score of 10-9. The game snapped a strange streak: the last three times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

Erick Valencia made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three runs. Lowry is 9-4 when Valencia posts two or more runs, but 5-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Michael Heikkila, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Fernley's defeat dropped their record down to 11-16-1. As for Lowry, they now have a losing record of 14-15.

Fernley couldn't quite get it done against Lowry in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 6-1. Can the Vaqueros avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
