Silver Creek is 0-6 against Floyd Central since May of 2018 but things could change on Thursday. The Dragons will venture away from home to square off against the Highlanders at 5:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Silver Creek came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Avon, falling 22-12.
Bailee Garrett and Avery Rankin stepped up to the plate in a big way. Garrett went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double, while Rankin went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That double marked the first that Garrett has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Heidi Phillips, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Floyd Central had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.4 runs) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Thursday. They never let the Panthers get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Highlanders, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Adeline Shultz made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Emmy Miller looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Addy Ware, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Natalie Curtis, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Floyd Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Floyd Central's victory was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 22-4. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Silver Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 17-9.
