Baseball Recap: New Fairfield Takes a Loss

New Fairfield fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Bethel on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 8-7. The loss continues a trend for the Rebels in their meetings with the Wildcats: they've now lost eight in a row.

Nicolas Martini was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of New Fairfield's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-2 (and 1-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Andrew Dossena was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Joe Gera also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.

New Fairfield's record is now 5-8. As for Bethel, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 10-0.

Coming up, New Fairfield will look to defend their home field on Monday against Immaculate at 4:15 p.m. As for Bethel, they will square off against Masuk at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
