Football Game Preview: Union Redhawks vs. Norman Tigers

Two dominant backs in Tayveon Parry-Speight and Anthony Johnson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Union Redhawks will welcome the Norman Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither Union nor Norman posted many points in their last games, so it might be the defenses that decide this one.

Last Thursday, Union was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 16-10 to Edmond Memorial.

Even if they lost, Union's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Reyon Williams, Sylus Cozart, and Logan Rowe, who each picked up one sack apiece. Williams was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 14 total tackles.

Meanwhile, Norman was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were dealt a 72-3 defeat at the hands of Bixby. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Spartans are ranked first).

Norman's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Union, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.

Everything came up roses for Union against Norman when the teams last played back in October of 2023, as the team secured a 65-0 victory. Will the Redhawks repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
