Softball Game Preview: Spruce Mountain Phoenix vs. Winthrop Ramblers

The Spruce Mountain Phoenix will head out on the road to take on the Winthrop Ramblers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Winthrop took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Spruce Mountain, who comes in off a win.

Spruce Mountain is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Hall-Dale on Wednesday. The Phoenix put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 14-4 victory. The game was the first time the Phoenix have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since May 1, 2019.

Rylee Turner spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits.

At the plate, Devin Bryant was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Another player making a difference was Bella Chretien, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, after soaring to ten runs the game before, Winthrop was a bit more limited in their contest on Saturday. They lost 18-1 to Cony.

Spruce Mountain picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-6. As for Winthrop, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Spruce Mountain got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2025 against Winthrop by a conclusive 9-3 score. Do the Phoenix have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Ramblers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
