Basketball Recap: Briar Woods Drops Highest Score of Season Against Riverside

Briar Woods scored the most points they've had this season on Monday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 76-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Riverside Ram. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (55), the Falcons still had to take the loss.

When it comes to explaining why Briar Woods lost, don't look at Devon Pettibone. Despite the final result, he shot 6-for-9 from deep and almost dropped a double-double on 28 points and nine boards. What's more, Pettibone also racked up six assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Patrick Fraim, who posted nine points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Briar Woods was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Riverside to victory, but perhaps none more so than Max Lawson, who went 6 for 11 en route to 18 points and three steals. Lawson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Joell Basue was another key player, going 6 of 9 on his way to 16 points.

Briar Woods' defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Riverside, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.

Briar Woods wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 53-51 loss against Jefferson on the 14th. As for Riverside, they will venture away from home to challenge Potomac Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Riverside is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 74.6 points per game this season.
