Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask La Costa Canyon). Everything went their way against the Carlsbad Lancers on Wednesday as the La Costa Canyon Mavericks made off with a 5-1 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Mavericks needed considering they were shutout in their previous contest.

La Costa Canyon pushed their record up to 7-5-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three matchups. As for Carlsbad, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10-2 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. La Costa Canyon will host Rancho Buena Vista at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Rancho Buena Vista's last three contests have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. Carlsbad has already played their next matchup (against Oceanside), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
