Chaparral has gone a perfect 3-0 against Denver South recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. Despite their defeat, Chaparral saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Lauren Thompson, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Thompson also grabbed five steals, which is notable because Chaparral is 6-2 when she posts at least five steals, but 7-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jade Monroe, who en route to 16 points.
Meanwhile, Denver South won against Manual on Thursday with 60 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. Denver South narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past George Washington 60-58. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Ravens have posted since December 18, 2024.
Denver South found their leader in sophomore Ka'niya Anderson, who dropped a double-double with 17 points and ten boards. That's the most rebounds Anderson has posted since back in December of 2024. Alex Gehring was another key player, putting up ten points.
Denver South has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points over those games. Chaparral's loss dropped their record down to 13-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Chaparral has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 25.3 boards per game. However, it's not like Denver South struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.1 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
