Basketball Recap: Isabelle Aragon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead La Junta over Florence

La Junta was the 25-16 winner over Florence when they last played one another last Friday, but their luck changed this time around. The La Junta Tigers lost to the Florence Huskies on the road by a 37-22 margin on Friday.

La Junta lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Isabelle Aragon, who posted seven points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kinsley Mayo, who put up five points along with six boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, La Junta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Florence's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaydence Martinez, who had nine points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. Martinez is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Victoria Finnigsmier, who scored ten points.

La Junta's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.0 points on average over those games. As for Florence, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-14.

La Junta wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 31-29 loss against Banning Lewis Academy on the 1st. As for Florence, they have also already played their next contest, a 42-22 defeat against Rye on the 1st.
