Basketball Recap: Grants' Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Grants came into Friday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They secured a 45-39 W over the Belen Eagles on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Pirates: when they faced off against the Eagles back in December of 2024, they had to take a 39-36 defeat.

Grants' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Promise Garcia, who went 5 for 11 en route to 16 points. Another player making a difference was Demi Martinez, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 11 points and five rebounds.

Grants' win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 9-13. As for Belen, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 11 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Valencia the next time they take the court. Belen will host Valencia at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Grants will host them at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th.
