Softball Recap: Benson Bobcats vs. Tombstone Yellow Jackets        
        
		
            
 Benson couldn't quite beat Tombstone on Thursday but the two-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 11-point  defeat they were dealt  last Wednesday. The Benson Bobcats fell just short of the Tombstone Yellow Jackets by a score of  13-11. Benson's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the  team, making it five in a row.
  Claire Parke put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound,   pitching five innings while giving up just two earned  (and two unearned) runs off   five  hits. Parke was even better at the plate,  scoring a  run while  getting on base  in all five of her plate appearances.
 In other batting news,  Nevaeh Trejo and  Harley McCabe stepped up to the plate in a big way.  Trejo  scored a  run while going 3-for-5, while  McCabe  scored two  runs while going 3-for-5.  Alyana Bosley was another key contributor,  scoring two  runs while going 1-for-4.
 On Tombstone's side,  Bria Gross spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned  (and eight unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks.
 At the plate,  McKenzy Nicoll and  Hayden Dobbins did most of the damage at the plate:  Nicoll  scored two  runs and  stole two bases while  getting on base  in four of her five plate appearances, while  Dobbins  scored three  runs while going 2-for-3. Nicoll is on a roll when it comes to  stolen bases, as she's  now  stolen  at least one in the last four games she's  played. The team also got some help courtesy of  Bella Lopez, who  scored two  runs and  stole a base while  getting on base  in four of her five plate appearances.
 Benson's defeat dropped their record down to 5-16. As for Tombstone, their win was  their third straight at home, which  pushed their record up to 15-9-1.
 Benson will take on Morenci at 4:00  p.m.  on Friday. As for Tombstone, they will head out on the road to  take on  San Miguel at 10:00  a.m.  on Saturday. Tombstone is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 11.1  runs per game  this season.
