Basketball Recap: Youngker Takes a Loss

Youngker was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Paradise Valley Trojans an easy 63-43 victory. While losing is never fun, the Roughriders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Trojans are ranked 92nd).

Despite the loss, Youngker saw an underclassman step up: sophomore David Jonkor posted 17 points. Jonkor continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of De?Andre Edwards-Malone, who put up eight points.

Youngker's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Paradise Valley, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-4.

Youngker will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on North Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on January 9th. Paradise Valley also won't see the court for a while: their next match is against Cactus at 7:00 p.m. on January 7th. One thing working in Paradise Valley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
