West Elk couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They suffered a tough 11-4 defeat at the hands of the Oxford Wildcats on Monday. West Elk was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Oxford apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.
For Oxford's part, Connor Commerford made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Commerford was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
