Soccer Game Preview: State College vs. Mechanicsburg

The State College Little Lions will head out to challenge the Mechanicsburg Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. State College will be strutting in after a victory while Mechanicsburg will be coming in after a loss.

State College was handed a three-goal defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Altoona 4-3. The final result isn't all that surprising considering State College's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania soccer rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Altoona are ranked 288th).

Fans were treated to a battle of the Wildcats on Monday. Mechanicsburg fell just short of Dallastown by a score of 1-0. That's two games in a row now that Mechanicsburg has lost by just one goal.

State College's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 12 goals over those three contests. As for Mechanicsburg, their loss ended a five-match streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4-2.
