Basketball Preview: New London Whalers vs. Ledyard Colonels

New London has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Ledyard Colonels at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. New London has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 901 points over their last 12 matchups.

In what's become a running theme this season, New London gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They breezed by Norwich Free Academy at home to the tune of 92-48.

New London's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Da'Shaun Phillips, who scored 21 points along with six assists, and Devan Williams, who scored 25 points along with six steals and five assists. Williams has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Cayden Simonds Gaskin, who scored 12 points along with three steals.

Ledyard can finally bid farewell to their seven-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They managed a 56-50 win over Bacon Academy. That looming 56-50 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Ledyard yet this season.

New London pushed their record up to 13-3 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 83.5 points per game. As for Ledyard, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-10.

Everything went New London's way against the Colonels when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the Whalers made off with a 62-39 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for New London since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
