Recap: Denver West Cowboys vs. Englewood Pirates
The Denver West Cowboys''s four-game losing streak came to an end on Saturday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 33-32 win over Englewood. Denver West's offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last four games.
Denver West got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Meekael Garcia out in front who threw for 220 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Robert Wittke was another key contributor, picking up 116 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Englewood's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Carson Campbell, who threw for 254 yards and two touchdowns on only 19 passes. Another player making a difference was Romeo Gonzalez, who picked up 101 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Denver West's victory bumped their record up to 4-4. As for Englewood, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.
Denver West will be playing in front of their home fans against Alameda at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Alameda comes in on a streak of failing to score more than six points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Englewood, they will head out on the road to face off against Kent Denver at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Kent Denver will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
